Apple Silicon M1 Mac Mini VS Intel NUC i7 Panther Canyon Handbrake X265 Video Encoding Speed Test
In this video I'm doing a video encoder speed test using Handbrake on the Mac Mini M1 and the Intel Gen 12 i7 NUC.
Basically, this video is an Apples to apples comparison of Apple Silicon M1 and the latest X86 Intel i7 NUC11PAHi7 which has the i7-1165G7 CPU. You can also see this as straight Mac VS PC battle, PC in this instance obviously meaning Windows 10 PC.
The important thing to bear in mind here is that both the Mac Mini M1 and the NUC Panther Canyon are using Handbrake with the same H.265 HEVC encoder, that being X265.
Because X265 is a software only encoder, this means that we are truly comparing the processing power of the Mac Mini M1 against the NUC Panther Canyon. Or more specifically, we are comparing the Apple Silicon M1 SoC processor against the Intel i7-1165G7 processor.
I will get around to doing the same test again but using the video encoder on the Apple Silicon M1 vs Quick Sync Video on the Intel processor to do a H.264 encoder speed test in Handbrake. With Quick Sync QSV and Apple Silicon VT both being hardware video renderers, the results will be much faster but let's see who wins in that one.
