[Arcade] Golden Axe extremely loud audio bug.
Warning: Loud audio, please lower your volume.
Version tested on:
SET 1, World (FD1094 317-0110)
I wanted to try and do a 1 Credit Clear run of Golden Axe as it only has 5 main stages which is less than the Sega Genesis's 7 main stages.
The game is famous for bad A.I so it's possible to force them into dashing and then perform a dash attack.
When playing the earliest released build (the arcade game has 6 sets). If an enemy falls into a pit, the game's audio goes beyond malfunction and can even slow down the game's speed due to another reason. It also messes up the checking system to see whether or not the player can advance after killing all of the enemies.
One lesser known fact is that arcade games have a mechanic called anti-stalling where if the player is standing still doing nothing, the game will spawn a more threatening super enemy to kill the player's character so that not only it punishes the player for doing nothing but it also allows the game to escape from softlock situations.
Another example is Magician Lord:
The final boss has a self-destruct timer as seen in the link below.

This game special spawns two shadow palette skeletons who do not appear as normal spawns anywhere else as far as I know.
Spawning these extra skeletons before fighting extra regular enemies hampers the performance that some sprites will instantly disappear and get replaced with newer sprites from the spawn queue (as seen in the end of the video).
Lastly, as not seen in the video:
The game can.... increase the "YOUR STRENGTH" score at the end of the game by getting a Game Over or somehow beating it (maybe pit-killing an enemy in Stage 5 since Stage Clear is the moment the final hit has been connected and not all enemies dead).
