Arcade Legends Episode 3: Spiderman The Video Game (Sega) Full Playthrough
In my third installment, I wanted to do a playthrough of a personal favorite and little known title, Spiderman The Video Game. This was another game which never made its way to consoles yet alternate versions like Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin was produced for the Sega Master System and other platforms. The game was produced by SEGA in 1991 for the Arcade System 32 hardware. It is a 4 player beat-em up title but unlike other games of it's genre, the camera will zoom out to a far away view where the characters attack with their ranged abilities. The plot surrounds the Kingpin obtaining the Sorcerers Stone Tablet and Spiderman's pursuit to re-acquire it with help from his friends. Four characters are available with a ultimate attack that uses health. The first is Spider-Man whom uses a webbing attack that can cover a large ranged area. The second is Black Cat whom can swing her grapple claw in a circle to take out mobs in a 360 range. The third is Hawkeye by firing his bow. The last is Sub-Mariner whom uses an electrical attack. The games list of villain's is very diverse including Kingpin, Venom, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Lizard, Scorpion, Sandman, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin and Dr. Doom. Though the game was definitely designed as a quarter gobbler primarily due to your health reducing all the time, the gameplay and attention to detail from the 80's / 90's comic esthetic will draw any Marvel aficionado. It is interesting to see the choice of characters but to my knowledge, Sub Mariner and Hawkeye were chosen due to licensing availability.
