[Arcade Play Series] beatmania #3 / beatmania 3rd MIX

The 3rd game of beatmania series. More harder songs were added. Some songs from 1st and 2nd MIX were deleted. From this game, the term "BEMANI" and BEMANI Series was launched, a brand of Konami's sound simulation games.
This game runs on Konami Bemani DJ MAIN Hardware.
Controlled with 5-keys and a turntable.

- Some songs from 1st, and 2nd MIX are deleted. Remained songs had a tag [CLASSIC].
- Free Zone system is removed.
- Players can select options like Battle, Double, Expert Play at title screen after they inserted coins by pressing buttons. Some options need to press buttons in a certain sequence. For example, Mirror play needs to press 2P buttons like 3-5-3-2-1-3-5-3-2-1-3-5-3-2-1. Random Play need to press 2P buttons like 3-5-3-2-1-3-5-3-2-1-3-5-3-2. This sequence can be found at the middle of Ballade "Do you love me?".
- This game has combo counter for Great. Good, Bad, Poor are not counted. When it counts more than 10, it shines.
- Expert Mode has Survival Gauge. If the gauge were all lost, the game is over, even if the stage is on the middle.
- There are some hidden songs needs to press certain keys or turn turntable at the title screen or select screen. The song "area code," "nine seconds," and 80's J-Pop "Believe again" will appear only after the ALL SONG COMMAND is entered.
- Some songs are not available for Battle Play. In Battle Play, both players play the SAME sequences of songs and compete their scores. However, because of the limitation of DJ MAIN Hardware, when players play songs that contains lots of notes like Ska a go go in Battle Play mode, they actually play as they play that in normal 2P mode. This problem also can be find at the LAST game of beatmania series, beatmania THE FINAL, released in 2002. When players play songs that don't support Battle Play, they can see "BATTLE PLAY NOT AVAILABLE" at the bottom of the screen after they select song.
In this video, you can see side lamps flashing and BGAs will make you dazzling. Please make sure before watching video, adjust the brightness of your monitor of screen because of some flashing effects.

BEMANI라는 브랜드를 사용하기 시작한 최초의 작품. 구곡들의 삭제가 이루어진 작품. 잔류한 구곡들에는 별도로 [CLASSIC] 표기를 하여 구분해두었다. 2020년대 현행까지도 제법 회자되는 곡들이 다수 수록되어 있다. nuovo nude의 Super Highway라던가, Tiger YAMATO의 LUV TO ME 등.
- 이야깃거리 -
Super Highway의 경우, 계단 배치를 제대로 정립한 곡으로 평가받는다. Do you love me?에서도 계단 배치가 있긴 하지만, bpm이 100으로 천천히 내려오는 반면, Super Highway는 160의 bpm으로 내려오는 데다가 곡의 중반부를 계단으로 채워 넣었기 때문에 여기서 실수해서 게이지가 많이 깎이는 경우도 있다. LUV TO ME의 경우, 5555333333331111의 연타가 자주 등장하므로 연타가 되지 않는 유저들에게는 어렵게 느껴진 곡이었다. 곡의 마지막이 5555333333331111로 끝나기 때문에 이 부분에서 게이지가 대량으로 깎이면 클리어는 실패가 된다. Attack The Music의 경우에는 연타나 계단의 비중이 높은 것은 아니나, 손배치가 다소 복잡해질 수 있어서 어렵게 느껴졌다고 한다.
20,november와 Attack The Music의 두 곡에 대해서만, 선곡 시 남은 시간이 1초 혹은 11초인 상황에서, 1번 또는 6번 버튼을 눌러 곡을 선곡하는 것으로 숨겨진 어나더 패턴을 꺼낼 수 있다. 당시 20,november쪽의 어나더 패턴은 이후 nagureo kidding style이라는 부제가 붙었다. 원곡에 비해 연타의 비중이 늘어났다. Attack The Music쪽은 노트들의 배치가 바뀌어 있어 주의가 필요했다.
본 작품에서 전곡 해금 커맨드를 통해서만 플레이할 수 있었던 곡인 area code와 nine seconds는 당시 기준으로도 대단히 짠 판정에 속해서, 신경 써서 쳤는데 BAD가 튀어나오는 모습을 자주 볼 수 있었다.
서서히 DJ MAIN 기판의 한계가 나타나기 시작한 작품으로, 2인 배틀 모드 플레이 시 일부 곡들에 대해서는 같은 채보가 출력되지 않고 일반적인 2P 플레이 시의 채보가 출력된다. 이는 시리즈의 마지막 작품인 더 파이널까지도 지속.
