DanceDanceRevolution 3rd MIX (c) 1999 Konami.

The 3rd game of DanceDanceRevolution(DDR for short) series, released in 1999. At that time, DDR was famous in Japan, also in Asia and other countries like USA. There was a time gap between 3rd MIX was released and 4th MIX was released, so 3rd MIX PLUS for minor update also released. Developers of Konami at that time needed to release Korea version of DDR 3rd MIX, and also Export version of DDR.
This game is the 1st game of DDR series that runs on Konami System 573 Digital Hardware. From 1st to 2nd(include Link Version), those games used Konami System 573 Analog Hardware. One of the difference of those two hardware is the process of initialization; when attendants turn on System 573 Digital Hardware for the first time, it does checksum check, and when the check is failed, it will start initialization. From 3rd to 4th MIX(include PLUS), attendants need to change security CASSETTE to switch game mode and install mode.

- Trivia -
This game has 320x240 resolution like 1st and 2nd MIX, include Link Version. From 4th MIX to EXTREME, DDR series games support multi resolution like GuitarFreaks and DrumMania; 320x240 for playing screen, and 640x480 for title, music select, and select game mode screen.

After insert coin(s), press arrow buttons to change game mode;
- 3rd MIX Mode : Just press green Start button. If the title screen is NOT 3rd MIX, press arrow buttons L-R-L.
- 2nd MIX Mode : Press arrow buttons L-L-R-R.
- Step Step Revolution Mode : Press arrow buttons L-L-L-R-R-R-L-R.

When the game is started, however, players CAN'T CHANGE THE GAME MODE. When players select 3rd MIX mode, they can play ONLY NEW SONGS OF 3rd MIX, and they CAN'T SELECT SONGS FROM 1st and 2nd. This also can be found in 3rd MIX PLUS.
Step Step Revolution Mode(SSR for short) supports ONLY HARDEST LEVELS of each songs.

APRONOVA, DYNAMITE RAVE, PARANOiA Rebirth were referred as the most DIFFICULT songs of 3rd MIX.

댄스 댄스 레볼루션(이하 DDR) 시리즈의 정규 넘버링 세 번째 작품. 더불어 해상도 320x240을 유지한 마지막 작품. 이후 4th MIX 부터는 가변 해상도를 적용하여 타이틀 화면 및 선곡 화면, 모드 선택 화면은 640x480, 나머지는 320x240 해상도가 적용되었다. 가변 해상도 자체는 시스템 573 기판을 사용한 마지막 작품인 EXTREME까지 이어졌다. 화면 하단에 표시되는 크레딧 문구의 폰트가 바뀌는 것으로 해상도가 변함을 확인할 수 있다.
본 작품부터 시스템 573 디지털 기판을 사용하여, 처음 전원을 켰을 때 체크섬을 확인한다. BAD가 표시되면 인스톨 과정을 거쳐 초기화를 진행한다. 시스템 573 디지털 기판은 DDR의 경우 EXTREME까지 계속해서 사용되었다. 음원 저장 매체로는 CD-ROM을 사용.

- 이야깃거리-
동전을 넣은 후 나타나는 타이틀 화면에서 커맨드를 입력해 본인이 원하는 게임을 선택할 수 있었다. 커맨드를 입력하지 않고 바로 스타트 버튼을 눌러 플레이하는 3rd MIX 모드, 3rd MIX의 수록곡들만을 대상으로, 당시 기준 어려운 난이도만 따로 떨어뜨려 묶어놓은 스텝 스텝 레볼루션(이하 SSR), 2nd MIX의 곡들만 플레이할 수 있는 2nd MIX 모드 이상의 3가지 모드를 선택할 수 있다. 물론 한번 시작한 이후에는 각 모드 간 전환은 불가능. 이는 3rd MIX PLUS에서도 고쳐지지 않았다.
- 2nd MIX 모드 : 왼쪽-왼쪽-오른쪽-오른쪽.
- SSR 모드 : 왼쪽-왼쪽-왼쪽-오른쪽-오른쪽-오른쪽-왼쪽-오른쪽.
- 3rd MIX 모드로 돌리고자 할 경우, 왼쪽-오른쪽-왼쪽.

SSR 모드를 제외한 나머지 두 모드에서는 기본적으로 VIVID 옵션이 켜져 있다. SSR 모드에서는 별도의 커맨드를 입력하여 VIVID 옵션을 켜야 한다. 켜지 않으면 현행의 FLAT 옵션처럼 박자에 따라 화살표 색이 달라지는게 아니라 무조건 같은 색으로 나온다. 배속의 개념도 없기 때문에 특히 저속곡에서 체감 난이도가 높아진다.

본 작품의 보스곡으로는 APRONOVA, DEAD END, DYNAMITE RAVE, PARANOiA Rebirth 등이 있다. 해당 곡들은 2020년대 현행에서도 제법 많이 언급된다.

3rd MIX의 신곡들 한정으로만, 일부 곡들을 제외하고 가사를 자체적으로 지원한다. 녹색 스타트 버튼을 누르는 것으로 켜고 끌 수 있다. 대부분은 방해된다는 이유로 끄는 편.
