Are coma patients conscious of the world around them? Unravel the mysteries of their awareness within the "unconscious" realm. ๐ง
A recent Columbia University Study shows that comatose brain-injured patients are aware of their senses, but are unable to use their motor functions to properly respond.
Scientists measured electrical activity in the brains of 107 patients. Out of these 107 patients, 21 showed a conscious attempt to respond to the prompt but were unable to do so due to cognitive motor dissociation.
By developing new techniques to communicate with these patients, we will give voices to the voiceless, with hopes of leading to a full recovery.
