The "E3 press conference" as a cultural moment has been fading ever since Nintendo broadcast their first Nintendo Direct in 2011. Sony's decision to abstain from holding a press conference at E3 2019 feels monumental: of the three hardware manufacturers, only Xbox persists in putting on a show for the press. In time, will the spectacle vanish forever? E3 2019 will be my eighteenth E3, and my answer is: I kinda hope so.
