A look at the demo for Arietta of Spirits, as part of The Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition.

This is a top-down story-driven game with some action RPG elements. Heavy emphasis on the story-driven part. I was immediately drawn in by the fantastic pixel art and animations, and I enjoyed it overall. I do have some concerns with the gameplay though. The actual action elements feel extremely bare-bones in this demo. Perhaps it'll get more complex in the full game as you go on, but there is no sign of that here. The writing was good, but the story premise so far doesn't feel entirely like something you haven't heard told before. I liked the game well enough to be interested in the release, but unless it gets a whole lot more mechanically engaging I think I'd find myself losing interest relatively fast.
