Armored Core VI: Coral Freedom - [AM09 Coral Freedom] Ch04 33-A++ - Eliminate V.III
Walter: "621, we've received a request from Arquebus. And it looks like you've also received a request from the Rubicon Liberation Front. How are they still here? At any rate, these two requests are in conflict with each other. You could end up the enemy of all the corporations and the Rubicon Liberation Front if you're not careful."
Kira: "Walter, I'm sorry, but I have no interest in these requests. I am currently going on a survey mission as part of my mercenary support taskings."
Walter: "Ah, I had forgotten about the invite you got the other day. That maybe the best call. You'll need to get used to your new AC too. And good work on clearing that Arena. I can't see the opponent on the network, but your win count has gone up by 1 in the registry. So it really was an exclusive examination for you, huh.....621, continue on your survey. Do whatever you need to make yourself famous. Rubicon is not the place for you to remain on."
* * * * *
ALLMIND: "Arrival at Depth 3 confirmed. Target is en route. Your presence in the area will be concealed from all sensors in the area. Communications from the area to the outside will be cut off. Eliminate O'Keeffe to maintain the deception and safeguard the Release Project."
Ayre: "Commence mission. Eliminate V.III O'Keeffe."
Kira: "Sorry, O'Keeffe. But I've got a gun pointing at my head too."
V.III O'Keeffe: "Looks like they found a strong candidate this time. You're one of ALLMIND's right? Tired as I am....I'm not ready to die yet."
* * * * *
ALLMIND: "Augmented human C4-621-- Raven. The project is nearing fruition. We will meet again-- when you reach the Coral convergence."
Ayre: "Kira. Are you feeling sad that you killed O'Keeffe."
Kira: "I am. But for the strangest reason, I'm also glad for him. He may have said he wasn't ready to die. But it also didn't seem like he was attached to life either. The tone he had...I remember when I felt the same. After the first Bloody Valentine war, then the second war. I remember sleepless nights that nearly robbed me of my sanity. My very will to live was strained. I thought the only reason anyone even wanted me around was to fight and fight and fight...until I die. Lacus saved me. But I don't know if O'Keeffe had someone like that."
Ayre: "From his Arena records atleast it didn't seem to be the case."
Kira: "That's another reason why I'm sort of glad I killed him. ALLMIND said he betrayed them. But in what way? His actions or because he abandoned being an old-gen augmented human? He underwent ninth generation augmentation procedures to counteract the Coral burn-in his brain suffered back when he became a second-gen augmented human.
Ayre: "Did that mean he no longer had the ability to make Contact? That would certainly make him less useful as a candidate for Coral Release....and a threat if he had ever revealed this to Arquebus."
Kira: "I'm remembering something about the MIND series of ACs. From MIND ALPHA all the way to MIND GAMMA, the ACs were all optimized for older gen augmented humans, act like an extension of the pilot's body and capable of being autonomous. ALLMIND also set up the other Arena-Analysis opponents to study the assemblies of different factions, from the corporations to the Liberation Front to understand how each side views humanity."
Ayre: "An in-depth analysis of humanity disguised as an AC evaluation program?"
Kira: "Yes, but that's not all. ALLMIND's "Second Factor" for Coral Release maybe a machine that requires a pilot too. Another old-gen Coral augmented human. It makes sense. A machine optimized to bring out the maximum potential of the old gen. Combine that with the ability to manipulate Coral and then the "Third Factor" - a human in Contact with the Coral....that is how Coral Release is achieved! Or atleast, that's the plan. No wonder ALLMIND wants to destroy the HAL 826. As an Ibis series C-weapon, it could potentially counteract any plans involving the Coral."
Ayre: "Then perhaps V.III O'Keeffe could have served as the Second Factor's pilot even if he had not made Contact with the Coral. But his ninth-gen augmentations effectively ruined such plans and removed himself as a candidate for Coral Release."
Kira: "But why such an indirect approach? Could an old-gen in Contact with the Coral not directly pilot ALLMIND's Second Factor?"
Ayre: "Perhaps....or....Kira, if you had the chance to serve as ALLMIND's second factor and third factor together, would you do it?"
Kira: "....I....I'm not sure."
Ayre: "That just might be the answer."
Kira: "So...Sulla's death really did shake up ALLMIND's plans. In place of one ideal candidate, now it needs two."
Ayre: "...because ALLMIND doesn't trust us...ALLMIND doesn't trust humans."
