Armored Core 4 is a 2006 vehicular combat game developed by FromSoftware. It is the 12th installment and 4th main installment in the mecha-based Armored Core series, the game serves as a reboot for the franchise. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan in 2006 and worldwide the following year.

Armored Core 4 is set in the future where a war has made the nations of Earth devastated and these respective governments have been replaced by corporations. Conflicts soon begin to break out between the corporations, that use massive combat robots, Armored Cores, to fight each other. The player is a Lynx, a name given to pilots of highly advanced NEXT Armored Cores.

After the announcement of Armored Core 6 at the game awards I couldn't think of a better time to jump back into this amazing series, which is one of Fromsoftwares longest standing franchises. Hopefully this series will act as a good introduction to the Armored Core games for people that are unfamiliar with them; or as a refresher for people that haven't played the games for a while before the sequel comes out.

I have always been a massive fan of the Armored Core games since playing Armored Core 2 on the PS2 and have really enjoyed the evolution of the series as it has progressed. Thankfully controls have improved a lot from the earlier entries.

In terms of gameplay the 4th generation (Armored Core 4 and For Answer) is much faster than previous entries and many other mech games. It may be a bit overwhelming at first but I feel like this creates a high skill ceiling for players that take the time to really master its mechanics (I don't claim to be a master BTW). However like previous generation customization is where the game really shines, allowing you to adjust almost every aspect of your AC to really find a play style that suits you or to try and earn the highest mission rankings possible (I do think that this is something that For Answer did a little better as there looks to be more parts available to play with).

In terms of story its typical Fromsoftware where there is one but to learn any real details you have to dig to find it. Thankfully if you are more interested in the story the amazing Armoredcorelore channel has done the hard work for you here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onu3Ca-mNww.

My only issue with the game is that it can be a little easy and there aren't really any missions that force you to really change up your build for a mission to really encourage the customization aspect of the game.

In terms of the walkthrough this will be a quite straight forward walkthrough where I show what I have found the best ways to complete missions so I won't be focusing on customization too much, I will leave that to you if you decide to pick the game up. Although I have never played For Answer fully so will love to experiment with the parts more in that game after finishing Armored Core 4. I will also be completing all of the missions in the game and arena challenges. You don't have to to complete the game but it is quite short so I want to show everything off.

If you want to see a hard mode walkthrough after this series let me know as many of the missions are changed up quite significantly and more story/lore points are mentioned in the in game dialog and it is considered to me the cannon playthrough.

A quick note is that the game does crash quite a lot at the moment in the RPCS3 emulator, so I recommend saving often to not lose any of your progress. It tends to be less of an issue when playing missions but is almost guaranteed to crash when doing arena matches. I am not sure about its stability using any of the 360 emulators.

For my emulator setting I am using the suggested settings on the RPCS3 wiki found here: https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=Armored_Core_4

Hopefully you are just all as excited for the sequel as I am and enjoy the walkthrough.
