AsRock G41M-GS3 mainboard random reset problem - trying to fix it by reapplying thermal paste Part1
AsRock G41M-GS3 mainboard random reset problem - trying to fix it by reapplying thermal paste Part1.
I had this mainboard for almost 10 years. First I used it with a 65nm Pentium E2200 Dual Core processor. Then I bought a better PC, so I sold the processor and continued to use the mainboard with a single core Celeron processor. After a while it wasn't enough as the second computer for multimedia, Youtube etc, so I bought a 45nm Celeron E3200 processor and it ran perfectly fine for about 5 years.
About a month ago it started acting funny, the screen would go blank and sometimes it the computer would restart too. I realized my crappy old monitor was failing, that's why it frequently went blank, but then the PC continued restarting itself with a "new" monitor.... so here we are.
Watch Part 2 for the correct thermal paste application method.
(Spoiler alert: after I put in the new paste, the PC seems to be working fine.)
