Although its much-publicized launch issues made it difficult to see the forest for the trees, Assassin's Creed Unity was (and still remains) a technical tour de force which far exceeds the limited ambitions of its more stable and well-designed but comparatively humble successor Syndicate. The bustling streets of revolutionary Paris have more stuff going on in a single open world frame than most linear action games can handle even in their mostly heavily scripted set pieces, and the main character models are exquisitely detailed and wonderfully expressive (especially during in-engine cutscenes). That Ubisoft screwed up Unity's execution is unquestionable, but aiming for the stars was never the problem per se and I really hope they haven't completely abandoned their efforts to push the limits of graphics and world design.
