In which I play "Feud", published in 1987 by Bulldog Software and developed by Binary Design. This game seems to be mainly one of exploration, learning your way around a village and surrounding countryside, looking for ingredients to cast magic spells. You have a rival magician who is out to kill you. My experience is largely one of wandering all over the place, looking for spell ingredients, only to encounter the rival magician, or one of his minions, and be swiftly killed.

There is something compelling about it, but ultimately you would have to have a lot of time to learn your way around and find spell ingredients. If the ingredients are always in the same place in game, then it is probably winnable once you develop a strategy to collect components of the spells you want and then go after your rival. If it's randomized, then I think it's going to be too random to be much fun.
