In which I play "Spellbound", published in 1986 by Mastertronic, and written by Adrian and Peter Sheppard. This is an interesting game, and one that I found both frustrating and intriguing. Randomly having the player killed, for no apparent reason other than making the game artificially difficult is a bit hard for me to swallow. It makes the game considerably more painful to play than it needs to be. There are some neat things about it though. The menu system, which was pretty rare in 8-bit home computer games, is quite fluid, and reminds me a bit of RPGs on the NES and SNES.

As a bit of an oddity, with some interesting components, it's worth a look. I can't really see investing the amount of time and anger into it that it would obviously take to beat.
