This is my first time fiddling with an Atari 800. But, I did really have a lot of fun pulling it apart.

09:30 ... finally start pulling it apart
19:50 ... finally figured out the latches
22:50 ... top case finally removed
24:10 ... horrible UHF cable finally removed
26:50 ... power supply board

This is another US-sourced example. However it seems a lot simpler to power (2.1mm plug) and connect video (DIN connector).

Its memory is maxed out to 48KB (three 16KB CX853 Memory Modules) plus the 10KB CX801 Operating System personality module.

It apparently needs 9VAC to run, but rather than just randomly plugging that in, I first dismantle the machine to check what it actually does.

This takes me some time.

But it does seem to rectify the incoming AC and then pass it through a 5V and a 12V linear regulator ... soooo, maybe I can't get away with 9VDC power supply ... a 12V linear regulator needs about 15V input, which it won't get from 9VDC ... so maybe it needs the 18V range of a 9VAC input ... ?

Not a major issue ... I can just use a VIC-20 power supply 🤓

For the video output it seems the DIN monitor port offers composite, audio and S-video (chroma & luma) ... too easy!

Now the machine is dismantled, I'll give the case a good clean & scrub and also clean the keyboard.

I might experiment with the power supply board on its own - seeing what happens if I run 9VDC into it.

The monitor cable should be trivial to build.

Unfortunately I only have a Ms. PacMan cartridge - I don't even have BASIC or whatever the default cartridge should be. No doubt there is some all-in-one wonder cartridge available.
