Atari Anthology - PS2 - Battlezone
A gameplay session of Battlezone on Atari 2600, playing it for the first time. I go through a few rounds on all three difficulty settings.
This first person tank shooter hit arcades in 1980 and was converted for the Atari in 1983.
It's 1999 and humanity is on the verge of world peace. Unfortunately, some military bods are having none of that, and unleash battalions of automated weapons to destroy all life on Earth. You have to take on this endless horde in a crusty old tank you find in a museum (Yes, that's the actual story, it's in the manual).
For 1983 and the 2600, this is impressive. Though I would have preferred some sort of campaign / mission structure for the home version, rather than just an endless, unwinnable battle. Maybe kill X amount of tanks, that sort of thing. Also, I found many shots impossible to dodge, even using the rotate / move strategy mentioned in the manual (though, without being able to strafe, I don't see any other way you could dodge anyway).
