Atari Does A Better Job With Special Editions Than Nintendo? IT'S TRUE!
Two different companies have both announced variations on existing video game platforms. One got it right, one not so much. We have Nintendo and Atari once again doing battle, but this time it's the Atari 2600+, a re-release of the original with an HDMI output, going up against Nintendo and the Switch 2. But Atari nailed it, and Nintendo missed the mark. Let's take a look because it's totally true that Atari did a better job with special editions this go around.
Pac-Man Edition 2600+
Here you can see the Atari 2600 Pac-Man edition console and joystick. Everything that they've done just makes this feel special. You've got the 7800 cartridge. You've got the Pac-Man yellow there on the joystick itself. Look at the console here with Inky, Blinky, Pinky, & Clyde. And I mean, it has the 2600 game as well. This just looks great. From the looks and presentation, I think that Atari has done a fantastic job here. But this next one, oof.
Nintendo Switch 2 with Pokemon Legends Z-A Edition bundle.
If you look at the Switch 2 itself in this bundle, there's literally no difference between this and a standard Switch 2. There's nothing here besides the box art that tells you that this is a special edition. This is kind of a bummer, kind of a disappointment to see because this fanbase LOVES variants and special editions, but Nintendo just didn't do anything here. I'm not a Pokemon fan myself, so I'm not missing out here. And I already have a Switch 2, too. But this really kind of misses the mark to me.
I think in this instance it is totally fair to say that Atari absolutely nailed it. Nintendo, not so much. What do you think? Let me know down below in the comments.
