The day is finally here, the first real first-party platformer on the Nintendo Switch 2 has launched! Donkey Kong Bananza was developed by the same team that produced Mario Odyssey, which was recently unveiled. As one of my favorite games on the original Nintendo Switch, that has me very excited. Let's go ahead and give you a quick look at the first few minutes of gameplay from Donkey Kong Bonanza.

Donkey Kong:
I know many people are undecided about whether they like the new character model of DK or not. I personally love it. I think he looks cute, goofy, powerful, and like a leading Kong. I love the detail that has gone into things like the movement of his fur as he moves around. I think they got them spot on.

Controls:
Out of the box, I don't like the controls, but it's an easy fix. I prefer having the B button be jump, and the A button being an action. Out of the box, Donkey Kong Bananza is reversed. Thankfully, as I showed here, you can go into the settings and switch that around.

The environment:
If you love destructive environments, this is the game for you, I can tell that already! Just about everything is destructible in here, and it's very, very satisfying. You can punch, slam, clap, and dig your way through different parts of DK's environments.

The music:
At least initially, there's no music at all. I was expecting some kind of theme or something, but there is absolutely nothing here. Hopefully, we get into more music as the game progresses

The cost:
I find it interesting that this game, a single-player traditional platformer, costs less than Mario Kart World. I'm not complaining, just a bit perplexed. I hate to say that it is only $69.99, but compared to the $79.99 on Mario Kart World, it is a slight savings. But man, I really wish it was 59.99.

First reaction:
What you see me play here is literally all that I have played of the game. I'm looking forward to spending more time in this world, especially with the fact that I can game share with my daughters on their Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, or Nintendo Switch Lite. I think this definitely has its potential.
