0Look, Gigli is boring, weird and its stars lack any on screen chemistry. It is definitely bad. But is it the worst movie ever? No.
As it turns out very, very few people actually went to see the movie as it only made 7 million dollars at the box office…so most of the hate probably comes down to Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck being the hottest couple at the time…
Those who hated Bennifer 1.0 or were just sick of seeing them all the time were gleefully receptive to seeing them fail and when the reviews came out the tabloids and comedians jumped on the bandwagon…and that was that…worst movie ever…
Behind the scenes their relationship also had a massive impact because where director Martin Brest had envisaged a darker, mob movie the studio stepped in and forced script rewrites and reshoot to turn the film into Romantic Comedy.
That experience and the hate he received understandably left Brest a bit jaded and demoralized and when his next two scripts were rejected or ignored her went into an early and reclusive retirement.
