Authentic Mexican food according to people who aren’t Mexican
I have a pet peeve! People who invalidate ethnic food on the grounds of their purported privileged access to that food’s authenticity….but most especially when this invalidation comes from ethnic outsiders who’ve only ever studied a culture from the outside looking in. In recent years Ive seen a bunch of videos and articles declaring popular Mexican food items, such as burritos and tacos, as an American perversion of “real Mexican” food and it’s annoying to me for no other reason than the fact that these people are totally wrong. Burritos and tacos are Mexican food. And further, who are they to tell me or anyone else what counts as “real” Mexican food?
Anyway, you may be wondering what happened to our brilliant video about Toshihiro Nagoshi. Well, that video had horrible audio issues that were unsalvageable and thus I will have to re-record the audio and upload it later this week. It’s a good video and we are sad, so we offer this brief philosophical reflection in its stead.
Thanks for watching
