Avengers: Infinity War Box Office Crosses $1 Billion Faster Than Star Wars: The Force Awakens
THR is reporting that ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will take another record from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ today or early Saturday when it crossed $1 billion dollars worldwide at the box office on its 10th or 11th day of release. The second installment of the new Star Wars trilogy accomplished that feat in its 12th day of release so this would be an incredible accomplishment at a time when Infinity War was not released during a holiday season or in the traditionally dead months of January and February. The film finished Thursday with a worldwide total of $905.1 million, including $338.4 million in North America. The film’s international total is at $556.7 million through Thursday and it does not even open in China until May 11. It did debut in Russia yesterday to the tune of $4.9 million which was the biggest single day opening day of all time in the country’s history. The film will not have much competition at the box office until Deadpool 2 debuts on May 18th with Solo: A Star Wars Story following quickly afterwards.
Mark Reilly and John Rocha are here to give you their reaction to this news and what they think these new numbers might indicate for the film by the time it ends its box office run. They explore if these numbers will hold up with all these blockbuster films opening up very soon and speculate if the upcoming competition will motivate fans to go see the movie multiple times more quickly than they normally would.
