According to Deadline, industry projections have Solo raking in over $170 million on its four-day holiday weekend. That puts it well ahead of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which earned $155 million on its opening day weekend.
THR reports that director Julius Avery is in negotiations to reteam with J.J. Abrams and Paramount for The Heavy, a superhero movie Abrams' Bad Robot is producing for the studio. The project is described as a subversive take on the superhero genre.
Deadline reports Guy Ritchie will next direct Toff Guys, a “stylized and inherently British drama” he co-wrote with collaborators Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson. It is being described as: “Set at the intersection of Sexy Beast and Downton Abbey, [Toff Guys] follows a very English drug lord attempting to cash out on his highly profitable empire by selling it off to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires.”
Lionsgate debuted the first trailer for A Simple Favor, the new thriller from Spy and Bridesmaids director Paul Feig starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as two best friends who get tangled up in a mystery. Kendrick stars as Stephanie, a mommy vlogger who goes on the hunt for answers after her best friend Emily (Lively) suddenly goes missing.
Deadpool 2 has brought back the music video tie-in to a movie and enlisted Celine Dion to sing a song for the movie. The song, “Ashes,” will be featured in some capacity in the upcoming Deadpool 2.
