Backpacker Rally, Take 2: Please, hammers, don't hurt me | The Long Dark
1We're taking a break from Interloper to try out the new challenge created by @longdark4ever , the Backpacker Rally tournament. It's a speedrun challenge in which you must acquire two 100 percent hacksaws, two heavy hammers, two stims, one 100 percent crafted bow, and 15 100 percent crafted arrows and take them to the goal (in Forsaken Airfield or at the Hermit's Hut in Milton basin, depending on whether you have the DLC).
Once again, we're in Mystery Lake in a mad dash for hammers. All the usual hammer spawns come up empty, but the local prepper cache comes through for us for the second run in a row. Our wandering also gets us up to 13 arrowheads found out in the world, meaning we only need to forge for one hour. Then it's on to Forlorn Muskeg for a spot of forging and searching for our final hammer, which turns up at the bunkhouses near Spence's (2:47:30). With everything cured and procured, all that's left is to get to the airfield. The great overland trek starts at 3:02:40, and in the process of getting from Spence's to the Island Cottage we go through eight Go Juices and four stims, culminating in a Hopeless Rescue-esque stim sprint to the finish (4:19:00). Final time -- 9 days, 20 hours, 57 minutes, which was good enough for a spot in the top three of the division ... until people started posting six-day runs. Ah, well. It was fun while it lasted.
