Backpacker Rally, Take 2: beach combing is NOT OP | The Long Dark
2We're taking a break from Interloper to try out the new challenge created by @longdark4ever , the Backpacker Rally tournament. It's a speedrun challenge in which you must acquire two 100 percent hacksaws, two heavy hammers, two stims, one 100 percent crafted bow, and 15 100 percent crafted arrows and take them to the goal (in Forsaken Airfield or at the Hermit's Hut in Milton basin, depending on whether you have the DLC).
OK, Take 2, this time without the bugs. After giving a polite "no, thanks" to a Blackrock spawn, our latest attempt puts us back in Coastal Highway. This run gets off to a faster start since Astrid makes a beeline to the Quonset and gets a hacksaw so she can start harvesting saplings right away. With some early maple and birch down to cure, we take a detour into Desolation Point to get a second hacksaw and the rest of the birch we need. From there it's back to Coastal for more looting and curing, with a special nod to beach combing. In DP and CH, Astrid found groups of three arrows she could harvest for arrowheads and feathers. By the time she left for the Ravine, Astrid had two hacksaws, three stims, 50-plus feathers, all the saplings and guts needed, and 10 arrowheads in four days despite not even laying eyes on a heavy hammer.
