Like many, I wasn't exactly sure what Balatro was when it first released. And then, after trying it, I had a moment very similar to one of my earliest FTL: Faster Than Light runs: despite doing things so well for so long, I get crushed by the final boss anyway. So yes, Balatro is a deck building roguelite. That's true. But it's also the kind of package that lets you build up a strategy and then just shits on it anyway. For some, that's really satisfying. For me? It's a beast that I've conquered since this video, but the runs I show here certainly weren't winners.
