Baldur's Gate 3 - 14 - Auntie Ethel
0Here, we explore what's left of the bog. To start, we come across a monster hunter.. and Astarion seems oddly interested in what he's doing there. It ends with Astarion stabbing the man in the eye. We confront him about this, and he confesses to being a vampire. Well, that's interesting. Hope keeping him around doesn't come back to bite us.. ..ho HO!
Side note, in my druid play.. Astarion tried to bite me while sleeping in camp, and that's how it was learned. I kinda figured that's just how it went down all the time. Interesting that it isn't.
Anyway, from there, we continue to the Auntie Ethel's teahouse. We tell the girl there that Ethel killed her brothers.. not because we care, but because we want to see her in misery.. despite what Lae'zel says. This will be a recurring theme here with the hag. Ethel's not happy and changes into her hag form, then flees behind the fireplace.
We give chase to find a room of.. uhhh.. patrons? They all made a deal with the hag, and it serves to show the mistake of doing so. She'll take your words and twist them. Example, an elf girl wished to never see her family again.. so the hag removed her eyes.
We confront a group of four.. 'masks'.. that seem reluctant to fight us. It was hinted in the previous room that wearing such a mask can make you into Ethel's pawn. We could have used non-lethal blows to club them into unconsciousness, but why bother? Astarion dies.. because I couldn't stop clustering up for maximum AoE effectiveness. It was kind of sad to watch in editing.
From there, we continue down a long, trapped ramp system.. and finally confront Ethel. After being beaten down a bit, she tries to make a deal with us in exchange for the girl. If there's anything that we learned, it's that making a deal with a hag can cause a lot of problems.. so we refuse. Again, we do so not because we care about the girl, but because we don't want to make a deal with a hag.
We find a wand in the back room that has 'Connor' etched into it.. so we head back up and out back, to a coffin. We tell the girl we might be able to bring her husband back. Yet again, we do this NOT because we care or are being good natured.. by this point, we definitely know better. So, of course he's brought back as a zombie.. which upsets the girl. We're bemused by this.. because she obviously wished 'to have her husband back' or some such other nonsense, and this fits that bill perfectly, despite the girl's claims otherwise. We tell her to take it or leave it. She takes it, much to our amusement, and we move on.
In my druid run, Mayrina died.. so all of this was new to me here.
