In this chapter, David and his party take a detour to investigate the situation around a local dig, where a group of dwarven clerics find themselves assaulted on all sides by hordes of undead. While fending off the various wraiths and ghouls and uncovering the site's secrets, the party learns that the entire operation was, in fact, a setup by one of the dwarves to help him gain immortality by becoming a Lich - and now it is up to David to stop the evildoer at any cost. Before that, however, our hero cannot resist the temptation to unlock the mechanism of a Scrying Pool in the middle of the dig site, which rewards him with one vision of Imoen, one of Caelar Argent herself, and one of the mysterious Hooded Man - unfortunately, the last one does little to shatter the mystery...
