Batman: Arkham Asylum Retrospective - The Dark Progenitor
One of the benefits of Gotham Knights' rocky launch was a flurry of comparisons to RockSteady’s excellent Arkham games. As a consequence, I finally installed the “Arkham Trilogy” bundle that I had picked up cheaply but swiftly ignored as newer games vied for my attention. First up was Batman: Arkham Asylum (the “Return to Arkham” remaster) and, despite my intent to play just a few hours as a refresher, I found myself hooked for several nights until I watched the credits roll. I figured that provided a good excuse to put together a few thoughts as to why I think it still (mostly) holds up and remains an essential experience.
