One of my favourite wargames from the early 1980s is Battle For Normandy. I find the interface clear, the graphics good enough to be comparable to table top wargames, the theatre of war familiar, and the challenge satisfactory.

This version is the game is a conversion from the Apple II version (that was released in 1982). This version improves upon the graphics in a way that it creates a close to table top experience. One of the biggest improvements compared to the original is the use of NATO symbols. The only problem I can mention is that the game does not use the screen scrolling and sound capabilities of the C64.

This is the version I played first in the mid-2000s. I find it still addicting, though usually I would adjust the emulator to play with greater speed.

This time I make a fatal mistake, I type E instead of F to stop moving in the first round, before landing on all landing spots. This is used by the AI to capture most of my landing barges, and a struggle for survival ensues.
