I consider the conversion of Archon for the C64 was one of the first gems on the platform. It was not using all capabilities of the hardware, but compared to the Atari, it had better intro song, and arguably slightly better color selection. But it is not these small advantages why I consider this game that important, but the same reason why it was so good on the Atari: the game play delivered something more advanced than the arcade games of the time, yet it was relying on the quick action of the genre. It showed that video games have a staying power in the bleak market conditions of 1983.
