0During Operation Checkmate in the spring of 1943, a British commando team in Rjukan, Norway, is murdered while attempting to sneak into a German-occupied base, and Astrid, the Norwegian resistance soldier helping them, is taken prisoner. Solveig, Astrid's daughter, battles her way inside the building to save her. Astrid, however, is adamant that the plant must be destroyed first because it is generating heavy water for Germany's nuclear research program. She then refuses to leave. The two are successful in destroying the plant, but a large portion of the heavy water is removed by truck. They make an effort to pursue, but German forces under the command of Lieutenant Weber corner them on a bridge.
