Synopsis

It has been more than 28 years since I played this game. I first played this game on the Apple IIc, and I got addicted to this game. Kind of like how I got addicted to The Legend of Zelda for the NES, the Ultima series, Bad Blood, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4. It is one of those adventure games role playing games where you want to find out what happens next. In addition to that, you have the freedom to explore the world.

The story line goes like this. You are a cadet at this mech academy, and your father was the famous Jeremiah Youngblood who was one of the original members of the Crescent Hawks which was Katrina Steiners personal lance. Katrina Steiner being a Archon of the Lyran Commonwealth. You start out as a cadet, and you try to complete your training at the Lyran mech academy. Before you could pass your final test to become a mechwarrior, the Kuritians attack Pacifica(the planet you are on). You try to escape your pursuers, and when you do the adventure starts there. Kind of like Fallout 3, you live in the vault, and you are forced out into the wider world.

You really don't have an idea of what to do next, but you just keep moving north, and your discover a large city. By accident, you locate one of the Crescent Hawk members at the Inauguration Hall which is the biggest building in the city. It was like the biggest event was after House Kurita troops occupied Pacifica. You find one member, and he leads you to the next person so on and so forth. I did manage to find the weapons cache, and this is where you go to contact Katrina Steiner to get you off the planet. That level has many puzzles, and it took hours to solve them all. Not only that, it took hours of game play to locate the Star League cache. In Fallout 3, it took hours of game play to locate the vault where your father was at. The game was so fun and you had fun exploring the world map, finding the key to finishing the game was possible. It is one of those games, you can really get hooked on. The Legend of Zelda for the NES was the same way. The levels were not in order, and they got more and more difficult to find. Exploring the world and building up your character is what made the game fun in the first place.

If you want to play this game, I suggest you get the PC version. The graphics are a lot nicer. Battletech the computer game is what got me into Mechwarrior and the FASA universe. I read a lot of novels about the Battletech universe, and I played the board game as well. Battletech is based on a board game made by FASA. The computer game mimicked this to a large extent. I thought Battletech was one of the best roleplaying games in the late 1980s.
