Battletoads - Game Boy - Full playthrough on Super Game Boy 2 (real hardware) [4K60]
Full longplay, playthrough, walkthrough & trueplay of the first Game Boy title in the Battletoads series which despite having the same name as the NES game is totally different and is in fact the second game in the series. The original NES game was later ported to Game Boy as Battletoads in Ragnarok's World with the sub title added to differ it from this game. Battletoads were clearly Rare attempt at cloning the success and following of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While there was some nice ideas behind it and plenty of jokes, the series wasn't expanded enough to keep it going and ended up being too hard for it's own good.
Ironically Battletoads on the Game Boy is hands down a better game than the NES original. With far more tighter gameplay and balancing. There are 9 stages in total and 8 bosses, while the the toad's nemesis the Dark Queen appears in the game to taunt you in cutscenes you never fight her in game. The story sees Zitz guided by Professor T. Bird having to rescue Rash and Pimple from Robo-Manus and Dark Queen.
It's a short fast paced title with each level being made up of different sections and all with their own unique enemies. Each level has its own them from, racing on a jet ski, chased by a giant brain, shooting down enemies in a plane and being lowered into a giant chasm. There is plenty to do in this short, but very polished title, kudos to the team who worked on this one the graphics, audio, controls and gameplay are just perfect for a handheld system, even if you can finish it in under 20 minutes.
Played on a Super Game Boy 2, using one of the normal border and colour pallet. Decent run stage 7 is where you run into problems due to how the controls works on that stage which Riven explains in the stream video.
