Battlezone | 1983 | Iconic 3D Battle! | Atari 2600
Battlezone is a first-person shooter tank combat game released for arcades in November 1980 by Atari, Inc. The player controls a tank which is attacked by other tanks and missiles. Using a small radar scanner along with the terrain window, the player can locate enemies and obstacles around them in the barren landscape. Its innovative use of 3D graphics made it a huge hit. Battlezone was ported to the Apple II, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, VIC-20, IBM PC, ZX Spectrum, and later the Atari 8-bit and ST computers. The ports to non-Atari systems were from Atarisoft. The ZX Spectrum version was published by Quicksilva. The 2600 version differs from all others in that it does not attempt to simulate the vector graphics of the original version.
GAME RECORDING INFO:
The game was scaled to 4k, without bi-linear filtering, and retaining the original aspect ratio. I also use a shader / filter that simulates a CRT Monitor (More like the way we remembered, than, the way it really was), and over it I created a 3D scenario to represent a 70's living room, to create a nostalgic atmosphere.
