Okay, critical thinker time, I honestly think bayonetta is better than devil may cry 3, now before you get your pitchforks and torches (they're on the wall to your right btw) hear me out.

Devil may cry is very tight and focused, and nowhere is this more evident than in its combat system, in dmc4se each weapon has two ground combos, a pause combo, and a normal one. sure there are nuances, but the idea is that, the movesets are limited, but do a lot in terms of spatial manipulation. so for example, if you were to perform vergil's force edge combo in dmc4se you'd launch the enemy forward once the combo ends, you could then follow up with a summoned sword and keep them in the air just long enough to close the distance with yamato's rapid slash, etc, etc.

aside from the basic button attacks/pause combos, you've got directional inputs, two sets of air attacks (sometimes more) and overall the movesets are very, very limited. no character is exempt from this system in devil may cry except (ironically) for nero, who has no weapon switching system and therefore access to a wider range of pause combos.

In bayonetta, the guns have a FUCKTON of combos, we're talking pause combos out the ass, sometimes you get shit that's super situational, and that isn't even counting the stuff you gotta unlock.

to put it bluntly, bayonetta has the same sorta move system that controls enemy movement and space, but she has more of it. it's like dmc3 on crack, AND she's got a weapon switch mechanic that you can customize on the fly, AND she has an entirely different moveset with enemy weapons which have basic combos, but only as many as dante would have with rebellion.

are you seeing what i'm getting at here? in devil may cry you have two button press non-directional attacks, a pause combo and a normal combo, you have two directional attacks, one for the launch and one for closing the distance. these are "Per weapon" the most complex dante's moveset even gets is with the gauntlets, and this is where he really shines. but bayonetta has all of that and more, so to me, bayo is basically devil may cry 3 on the most potent steroids imaginable. it's really a better game all around. I don't say that lightly, It's really that good. am I still a dmc fan tho? fuck yes, but i know how to appreciate a lady, and buddy, bayonetta is one hell of a lady.
