Make sure you have a free worker. You can buy or register a worker at the Work Supervisor NPC. Every town or cities has one.

I suggest you use GIANT for far away nod like Farming or Mining as they have more stamina and can last longer. I use goblin for in-town work ( crafting ) and humans for gardening.

But it's up to you what fits better for your need.

Make sure you put the max amount of time to farm or mine or they will come back to your town and afk.

you can also assign which storage you want them to go deliver the goods.
