In light of Akira Toriyama's death, I have decided to take a break from sketches this week and do some heavy animation training. Life is extremely short, and my ambitions have grown beyond what I'm comfortable with achieving in-camera. The only way to surpass your limitations is to expand your perspective, something I think Goku personified both philosophically and physically. I think that's a big part of why people connected so hard with Toriyama' s work. It's the first time many of us, including dozens of modern major industry talents, had the concept of "training," the slow climb to a new height, explained to us in such practical, approachable terms. This video is unimpressive and inadequate, but it's made in service of my learning to elevate my animation to a new level.

Akira Toriyama awakened our potential, whether it was the grind of Dragon Quest, the heart of Chrono Trigger, or the pacing of Dragon Ball. Rest in Peace, you absolute legend.

Just trying to figure out how to do camera movement on action. I ran out of table at the end and it got wonky, but I think I get the gist of it. And now I'm all the better for trying.
