There's no way that Beetlejuice is as bad as its reputation protests, right? Oh yeah, it is! LJN publishes maybe its biggest turd yet in this confusing, frustrating, and nonsensical mess. The only attack you have at the beginning is a stomp, which you'll quickly notice doesn't do squat. Well, you gotta stomp beetles until you have enough points to unlock scares which can shoot. But they only work for a limited time. Don't worry, the stage layouts are so bad that fighting enemies is the last thing you'll worry about. As far as following the movie, it appears to be more of a direct sequel where Beetlejuice is trying to get to Ghoul Heaven. Forget that, send him to the Bad Place!

"**Beetlejuice**" for the NES is a platformer video game released in 1991 by LJN, based on the popular 1988 film of the same name directed by Tim Burton. The game follows the adventures of the mischievous and chaotic bio-exorcist, Beetlejuice, as he attempts to rid the Deetz family from the house of recently deceased couple, the Maitlands.

Players control Beetlejuice as he navigates through various levels filled with enemies, traps, and puzzles inspired by the film's eerie and surreal environments. The gameplay involves jumping across platforms, avoiding obstacles, and using various items to defeat enemies. Beetlejuice can also summon creatures and utilize special abilities by collecting items throughout the game.

The graphics capture the quirky, gothic style of the movie, with levels designed to resemble key locations like the Maitland's house, the Netherworld, and other haunting locales. The music and sound effects add to the game's spooky yet whimsical atmosphere, echoing Danny Elfman’s iconic score from the movie.

However, despite its interesting premise, the game was often criticized for its difficulty, clunky controls, and frustrating level design, making it a challenging experience for players. Fans of the movie might appreciate the nostalgic references and dark humor, but the gameplay itself was less well-received by critics and players alike.
