Above are the websites for Audacity and the Plugin I use personally. Below I have written out the directions in this video for those who would rather follow written rather than verbal instructions!

Once you’ve got that set up, and after you’ve recorded some audio (maybe just a small clip of voice over for testing purposes) you’ll want to go into the effects menu.

Under the effect menu the first thing you should click is “Equalization”. I used to just leave it at default, but recently I’ve been messing around more with the levels (click Graphic EQ to see what I mean). My personal settings so far are to drag the first 9 sliders (starting on the left side) down all the way, and leave the others in the middle. It’s up to your voice and sound, so just play around with it :P Click Okay once you’re done.

Next, under Effect again, find Compress Dynamic 1.2.6 (the add-on you just downloaded) and click it. This is pretty straight forward, and it even explains what everything is at the top. I played around with this a lot before finding my “perfect” settings.
Compress Ratio: 0.800
Compression Hardness: 0.879
Floor: -18.00
Noise Gate Falloff: 4.00
Maximum Amplitude: 0.990
You could try my settings and see what you think, but you’ll likely have to fiddle with them some more. Click okay once you’re done.

Finally, once again under effect, find “Normalize” and click on it. This I leave completely alone, just click Okay (default should be the first 2 boxes checked, and -1.0dB).

I hope you all enjoy!
