BEYOND THE PINS (Assembly Line Game Jam 2021 NES Homebrew) - First Half
***Looks like the end of the video is missing, so look for a reupload soon!
Beyond the Pins is the product of the co-hosts of the Assembly Line podcast, Kevin (KHAN Games) and Beau (Sole Goose Productions): a crowd-sponsored game jam resulting in a once-in-a-lifetime NES indie title that can best be described as a "bowling adventure." Read more about the project at https://www.solegooseproductions.com/?page_id=671. If you missed out on supporting it and getting one of the few copies of the game to play, I weep for you. But that's also why I recorded this video.
Beyond the Pins is a brief yet satisfying diversion that exudes inventiveness and talent, from the inspired concept to the gorgeous pixel art (by Jon Piornak) to the musical stylings of "Human Thomas," Thomas Cipollone. There's enough here to support a full-blown, longer adventure, and I wouldn't mind at all if they took the premise and ran with it.
This recording is my first playthrough, when I didn't even know what kind of game I was firing up, sans commentary. I wander around in confusion for a fair bit of it, even though the puzzle was a simple one--please be kind. I was exploring! Yeah, that was it.
I captured gameplay on a stock frontloader NES via composite and the RetroTINK 2X-Mini using an AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.
