THQ Nordic has released Biomutant, a Swedish action role-playing game developed by Experiment 101. On May 25, 2021, the game was launched for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game will be released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the near future. Biomutant is a third-person action role-playing game set in an open world environment in which the player controls a mammalian warrior in a world filled with deformed animals. Players can personalise their character's length, body form and thickness, fur, fangs, and a variety of other features, all of which have a direct impact on the playable character's statistics during gameplay.
The combat system incorporates both melee and long-range shooting. Throughout the game, the player collects pieces and assembles them into a weapon. Each component has its own impact on the final product's statistics. Affixes, such as cryogenic and electrical, are available in the game and can be used in conflicts. When a cryogenic part is attached to a weapon, it causes foes to freeze when they are hit. By switching between several weapons during combat, the player can combine the power of multiple weapons. The player can use level up points to increase their qualities or unlock new attack combinations in addition to levelling up the playable character. Interacting with specific characters in each location is another way to learn new moves. This allows the player to overcome hurdles posed by their surroundings, such as the limited oxygen supply in the Deadzone, and to explore new areas that would otherwise be impossible to reach without taking measures. The player can explore the game's globe on foot, by flying, or by employing an air balloon, jet ski, or mech. It also has a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle, both of which have an impact on gameplay and opponent behaviour.
The plot is driven by missions, and the mission lines are driven by characters. Certain NPCs will supply quest lines to the player that originate in their location. Biomutant also has a Karma system for non-playable character interactions, as well as an alliance system to impact the in-game tribal war. The stances characters take can alter depending on the player's actions, interactions, and decisions throughout the game, which has an impact on the story's progression as dialogues and quest lines are changed. The plot is fully narrated, albeit the narration level decreases as the game progresses.
