Black Guy Reacts To PewDiePie Dropping N-Word While Live Streaming PUBG
An extremely popular YouTuber who goes by the moniker “PewDiePie” (also known as Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg) has found himself in the midst of racially sensitive controversy again due to dropping the n-word during a livestream of a videogame called Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). It appeared to be during a tense moment when he was trying to prevent a squad mate from being eliminated from the match. He instantly apologized and tried to substitute the word he said for another edgy, but not racially offensive, word. A little while later in the match, he began to talk about other people who found themselves in the same quagmire he realises that he is now in and also the potential loss of his sponsor deals.
Most of the reaction in the gaming community has actually been pretty sympathetic due to Felix never really presenting himself as a bad person. Also, much worse has been said on livestream from other people. It’s just that PewDiePie has such a large platform and has been attacked for being a “racist” before. Outlets like The Wall Street Journal have been on his back for a while now. Every since an article they wrote accusing him of purveying in anti-semitism broke, there has been a strained relationship between them. That article was totally unfounded and based on simple jokes but now they have tangible evidence to back up their claim which is actually false.
It is not quite known as of yet what the penalty for PewDiePie will be in the end as far as revenue lost. One of the developers from a game called Firewatch said that they will be filing DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) claims against the videos of their game that he has on his channel. Abusing copyright law just because a streamer said something that another person doesn’t like is taking it too far and it also sets a dangerous precedent. What other words will be added to the list of unutterable or else your punishment will far exceed your “crime?” What PewDiePie said was wrong to do but not worth anything other than a reprimand and a personal choice from his audience - to continue to support him or to discontinue support.
