What Is PUBG, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS? What Has Everyone Hooked?
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, also known simply as “PUBG” has taken the online gaming world by storm. At first glance, it doesn’t seem to be anything too impressive. Bad graphics, clunky interface, no single-player mode, and still in early access so that means it has some bugs. Sometimes the game can be boring to watch depending upon who’s video a person is watching. But just like many other things, it must be tried by a person in order for them to understand how fun it truly is. But the first hurdle someone must get over is to understand the fundamentals of the game.
Rules of PUBG are pretty simple. Games are matches of ~100 people who start off in a plane that is able to be ejected from at any point on a fairly large map. Nobody starts with anything other than some basic clothing, some of which is optional. Weapons, armor, health, and other smaller usable things must be acquired through a process called “looting” - going from house to house on the map and searching … or from killing an opponent and taking whatever they had on their person. There is no respawning after death. One death and that’s it. The goal is to go from 100 people in the map to #1 as a solo person, a duo, or a squad of 3 or 4 people. When you win, you get a message saying “Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner.”
What keeps the game interesting throughout is the lack of of enemy-detecting radar and the 1-life feature. Since there is no enemy radar, you must rely on your eyes and ears. Footsteps and gunshots have to be listened to very closely to determine enemy location. You must also be very careful when entering a house to loot or seek refuge, as a person could be inside waiting on you with a shotgun loaded and aimed at a closed door from the inside. Having one life makes preserving your life extremely important. Add on top of that the closing “circle” or area of gameplay as the match progresses, you have a recipe for heart-pumping white-knuckle barn burners.
PUBG may not be the most beautiful girl at the dance but boy oh boy, isn’t she most fun.
