Among my very favorite games of all time, this is Black. Very high up on my list in fact. This is my second favorite FPS ever with the first of course being Doom. To me, it doesn't get any better than this. This game has everything I look for in a FPS. Graphics, sound, gameplay, and as a bonus has a good story plus has many small objectives that must be completed along the way. All the in game scripting is audio only. Never once is control ever taken way from you. The voice acting is top notch, and the action is simply unmatched by any modern FPS.

Black does have some minor quirks I do admit. Some guys seem to take way too many bullets before they fall unless you shootem' in or near the head. The A.I. is par for the course. The only thing about the A.I. is that they don't hear the guy next to them get shot with a silenced weapon, or even hear a window shatter if shot with a silenced weapon, but they sure do hear the AK-47. Absolutely none of these small quirks take away from this game at all. Some weak gamers may see certain things about this game to be bad such as there is NO REGENERATING HEALTH. You have an old fashion life bar that gets replenished by health packs that you pick up making the game more difficult. Another thing is that checkpoints are very very spread apart again making the game harder. This ain't COD where you have a checkpoint every 5 steps. The last thing is that the missions are very long with the exception of the first mission which is shown in this vid. Seriously, if any of that bothers you, you need to get off my channel.

The graphics are some of the best ever seen on a last generation title. Unlike many games of it's time and even some made today this game has semi destructible environments with lots of dust and particles flying everywhere. This ain't no geo mod tech like you see in Red Faction, this stuff is actually awesome. The sound is where this game excels far beyond any game I have ever played. This game sounds amazing on the PS2. It sounds absolutely EPIC on the XBOX with a well tuned 5.1 system. Modern Warfare 3 has NOTHING on this game. From explosions to the gun sounds to the sounds of your surrounding environment, no game even comes close to Black. If you're playing this game on a little home theater in a box, you will damage your speakers. If you play this on TV speakers, you will be doing yourself a great injustice. The gameplay is slower than COD from the turning and walking speed to enemy attack waves. You don't constantly get surprised attacked at every single corner nor do you have to find the sweet spot to stay in to best survive those attacks or just hide and leave it up to other A.I. soldiers to kill them all for you like in COD. There are 4 difficulty levels, and each level removes more health packs and adds more minimum number of objectives. In the hardest difficulty there are NO health packs at all and you must complete every mission objective or you don't move on to the next mission. That's hardcore. There is no multiplayer at all in this game. That's ok because it doesn't even come close to needing it. Again if this bothers you, get off my channel.

Lastly there are those who may wonder what the differences are between the PS2 and XBOX versions of this game. Since I played this game all the way through on the normal difficulty on the PS2 originally and now own the XBOX version, I have to say that there differences between the two versions are definitely clear, but not nearly as big as I initially thought they would be. The PS2 version looks a little softer due to being a slightly lower resolution. The framerate is more consistent on the XBOX version as there is some slowdown in the PS2 version where things get very busy, but not too often and not even close to game breaking. Neither version drops frames, the gameplay just simply slows down a little. Again the sound in the PS2 version is excellent, but it is a night and day difference when compared to the XBOX version because the XBOX is just that good. Both versions run in widescreen as well as progressive scan. Bottom line is that if you only have a PS2 get it for the PS2. If you have both like I do, get it for the XBOX. As a matter of fact get this game anyway you can, because it's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
