This video was captured using the actual game on an actual Super Nintendo.

So here we have the sequel to an already great game called Top Gear. Top Gear 2 took off right where the first one left off, taking the series to new heights. As where the first installment broke the mold in the racing genre, this one broke the mold again. This time there is even more strategy and as well as more challenge. Going right from capturing the first Top Gear to capturing Top Gear 2 was quite jarring. Where as I did the first game in one take, I actually had to practice a bit before capturing this one.

Top Gear 2 is the game that is primarily responsible for me being so much into the racing genre. What really attracted me to this game was the speed. After your car is fully upgraded you travel at insane velocities. So fast that everything almost becomes a blur.

Other than the terrific sense of speed the game really piles on the pressure by making you more responsible for mistakes and bad driving. In this installment you now have a damage indicator that adversely effects the way your car handles and top speed. Have too many frontal collisions and you will be passed like you're standing still. Smack other drivers too many times with your door, you will be fighting to keep your car straight. There are upgrades for engine, transmission, tires, nitro, and front and side body armor to protect your cars performance and trust me you will need it. There are of course different levels of each upgrade and upgrades are purchased with your winnings. It's totally up to you what parts you wanna blow your money on and sometimes you can make a bad choice that will cost you the season. Many times have I needed to input the continue code. But it's all in good fun. Top Gear 2 took away the need of watching your fuel gauge, and added things that put your more in control of adapting your car to your racing style with a limited amount of money. Also Top Gear 2 features a full screen in single player mode instead of the first game's constant split screen which was a very welcomed improvement. Other than that, the game speaks for itself.

Top Gear 2 is still readily available, but the price seems to be climbing to the 10 to 15 dollar level as of this video, but nothing Earth shattering. I highly recommend this title to be in any racing enthusiast's game collection. It is still very playable today.
