Blasted (Bally Midway)

Blasted is a shooting game with a distance view at the top of the screen and a long-range sight. Sound a bit like Silent Scope? Yes and no. Instead of a sniper rifle, you're using a semi-auto assault weapon. The gameplay is faster paced as well with no reloading.

Don't worry about property damage. You're actually rewarded for it! There are a few objects that can be shot repeatedly. Shooting innocents doesn't take energy away from you, but it instead results in comical animations. You can hit a cook's frying pan to juggle the eggs, shoot a fishbowl to make the goldfish jump, interrupt a bugler playing Reveille, etc. You should tag the mad scientist early in the stage. Once you hit him, you can work on building up an energy bonus for the end of the level by damaging power sources.

Sometimes a cyborg will take a hostage. You have to take him out on your next shot, or the hostage will be toast. Enemies have to be hit in their red energy core, which is usually on the head.

Blasted was made by Jeff Nauman and Brian Colin (who did the art... no surprise, because it has a similar look to Xenophobe and Rampage). They developed and assisted on several other games for Midway and Williams. General Chaos for Mega Drive is one of their other games.
