Bleifuss auf 486er / Screamer on a 486 system

Als reinrassiges DOS-Spiel aus einer Zeit, in der in Haushalten wahrscheinlich noch etliche 486er werkelten und der Pentium 133 das absolute Luxus-High-End-Gerät war, fand ich schon immer, dass Bleifuss auf einem 486er gespielt werden müsste/könnte. Tja Pustekuchen, den 486er, der Bleifuss ordentlich ohne größere Einschränkungen abspielt, den gabs 1995 wahrscheinlich noch nicht sehr häufig. Ab einem Pentium 75 kann der Spaß erst beginnen, mit stabiler Framerate und annehmbaren Detailstufen. Hier habe ich mir ein 486er System zusammengestellt, mit einem AMD-X5 auf 160 MHz übertaktet. Der Prozessor hat von Haus aus ein Pentium-Rating von 75 bei 133 MHz. Da dachte ich mir, ein bisschen mehr ist bestimmt nicht verkehrt. Auf Wikipedia kann man nachlesen, dass sogar eine übertaktete Version mit 160 MHz inoffiziell im Umlauf war, die auf der 133 MHz ADZ-Variante basiert. Diese hätte ein Pentium-Rating von 90 bekommen sollen. Dann wollen wir das mal glauben :)
Der AMD-X5 ist im September 1995 erschienen und ist mit seiner internen Taktvervierfachung, der einzige echte DX4 Prozessor.
Alternativ ist der Prozessor noch mit der Aufschrift "AM486DX5" erschienen.
Wobei "DX5" hier genauso ein schlechter Witz ist, wie bei Intels DX4 :P
Er ist ein reinrassiger 486er mit 16kb großem L1-Cache, der die weitere Taktvervielfachung ermöglicht.
Als Grundlage für eine flotte DOS-Kiste durchaus zu empfehlen, und exotisch zugleich :)
P.S.: Als Gehäuse dient hier ein Highscreen Colani (ehemals 486SX), vielleicht kommt es ja einem bekannt vor :)

this is Screamer on a 486 computer. In 1995, i think the 486 computers were still more present at people´s homes than the new pentiums. Imagine, the Pentium 133 was just released and was the next generation´s leading edge processor. (As a kid)You had either rich parents or parents that were very interested in Computers to have a Pentium that would play Screamer at an acceptable framerate. Maybe i´m wrong, but i guess, there were many guys out there, who did try to run Screamer on a 486 computer.
This is a 486 computer i built in my free time, powered by an AMD-X5-133ADZ overclocked to 160 MHz. See how Screamer performs on that machine :)
The AMD-X5-133ADZ had a Pentium-rating of 75 running with 133MHz. So i thought, Screamer starts running quite well on a P75, so why don´t give it a little boost. So i set the FSB speed up to 40 MHz and now thanks to the fact that this processor is the one and only real DX4, it´s running with 160MHz.
Based on the Am486DX4 Enhanced, the X5 was a real 80486 CPU with 16kb of L1 Cache, that made this extra clock multiplier possible.
