The Blender Foundation have just launched an interesting new service. Essentially they are making available a custom version of Blender with several benchmarks built in, with binaries for Windows, Linux and Mac available, each weighing in at around 1/2 a GB. You run this benchmark on your machine and you can determine how well your machine performs.

What makes this service most interesting is that it is end to end open source, from the GPL client, to the data submitted being available under CC0. That means all companies and individuals should have access to the raw data from the benchmark, after being scrubbed for privacy.
