Valve just updated Steam Play with a new technology called Proton, which is a custom implementation of WINE, for running Windows games on Linux (and potentially Mac), while enabling D3D11 and Direct3D 12 apps to translate to Vulkan.

The underlying technology Proton is open source and available on Github.
