There is no question that Steam was good for PC gaming... but are they resting on their laurels now? Is it time for a competitor to step up and compete? Perhaps the competitor is Discord, yeah... that game chat folks.

Starting with a Canadian (Wahoo, oh Canada! Finally!) 50K user beta, users on Discord Nitro will get access to a library of games for a monthly fee... kind of like a gaming Netflix... yeah, we've all heard that before. In fact Microsoft and EA are already doing it, among others!

Then they will be launching a heavily curated online store similar to Steam... but curated. They are also heavily targeting indie developers with an exclusive (90 days) program and various unknown incentives.

Can Discord compete with Steam? Only time will tell.
